This & That 6/5: What to Watch, Read, & Buy

Mountainhead, Movie, Max. How to describe this movie??! I (Chrissie) watched it, didn’t like it, yet can’t stop thinking about it. Steve Carell, Ramy Youssef, Jason Schwartzman, and Cory Michael Smith star as tech billionaire ‘bros’ without souls or empathy, secluded in a mountain chateau when the world faces an economic and cultural collapse, which their businesses helped create. The characters, dialogue, and actions of this ‘dark comedy’ are sort of ridiculous, but then maybe that’s the point, as the movie is mocking tech moguls? I don’t know whether it’ll be considered the biggest dud ever, or a cult classic, or something in between. I felt like I was watching a play, as it’s essentially a dialogue-driven movie set in one home over the course of one weekend. Curious what people think about this one. Written/Directed by Jesse Armstrong of Succession.
Stick, Series, Apple TV. Chrissie and her husband watched the first episode of this one and it’s one they’ll keep watching together. Owen Wilson executive produces and stars in this comedy series about a down-on-his-luck ex-golfer who takes on a troubled youth who’s also a child prodigy golfer. Released June 3.
Secrets We Keep, Series, Netflix. FabLister Charlene G. and her husband both recommend this 6-part series, which takes place in an affluent Danish suburb, around the investigation of an au pair's disappearance. It kept them guessing! In Danish with subtitles.

Atmosphere: A Love Story, by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The author of FabList favorites Daisy Jones & The Six, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and more, has a new book out this week. The book focuses on a female scientist involved in the 1980s Space Shuttle program as she learns about herself, love, and space. Chrissie is about halfway through and gives it a thumbs up.
Eddie Winston is Looking for Love, by Marianne Cronin. FabLister Carolyn H. recommends this book about a 90-year-old man who has never been kissed and his friendship with a 24-year-old who is out to help him find that experience. A charming and entertaining book where friendships and love unfold in the most unexpected ways. Viewing life through the lens of Eddie, the 90-year-old narrator, is refreshing, optimistic, and sweet.

Need a last-minute Father’s Day gift? Chrissie’s husband just picked out two of these Polo quarter zip pullovers (in gray and green) for his own Father’s Day gift and has worn them every day since. They are super soft and don’t have the Polo horse logo on them (even though the image on the site shows the logo on it?!), which is nice. Highly recommend!
Jo just bought a pair of Nili Lotan Shon jeans in white for summer. We’ve been a fan of the cotton Shon pants for years, and the jean version is another winner. Loose barrel fit (size down one size) with side and back patch pockets. These are the perfect white jeans for summer.
Madewell has some great basics for summer, especially this denim dress that comes in blue and white options! And these suede studded sandals are an Isabel Marant dupe and great everyday summer shoe.
Chrissie is loving these Banana Republic mid-rise jeans with a slit on the side of the legs. They are loose/wide-legged, but not TOO loose nor TOO wide-legged, and are soft and comfortable enough to wear on a long plane ride!
